MovingBar: The most precise spatial localization equipment in the world
T
All research on hearing aids is now focused on improving speech comprehension in noisy environments. Due to their morphology and positioning, human ears allow for horizontal localization accuracy of up to 2°. This spatial perception is what enables humans to understand speech in noise. Until now, no tool has been able to test horizontal localization with such precision.
In many test booths, localization tests are performed using two speakers, which only allow for testing stereophony. In this case, human hearing only achieves an accuracy of 15° because there is no phase shift, as there are two sound sources. With our sound bar, only one speaker emits sound at a time, eliminating confusion and enabling a precision of 2°.

The invention relates to a device for testing a person's auditory localization.
According to the invention, a speaker (Fig. 1 / 1) is mounted on a motorized carriage (Fig. 1 / 4) (Fig. 1 / 3) that moves longitudinally along a rail (Fig. 1 / 6). The entire setup is concealed behind an opaque fabric that allows sound to pass through while preventing the speaker from being seen. The device enables sound to be emitted from the speaker while controlling the movement of the carriage along the rail, ensuring the speaker remains hidden from view. The device is equipped with an indicator light (Fig. 1 / 2), attached to the carriage, which shows the speaker's position when illuminated, allowing for a comparison between the speaker's position and the subject's estimated direction of the sound when the light was off.
This device is particularly used in the field of hearing aid fitting and balancing.

The Sound Bar: Robust and Aesthetic
The sound bar is made in France in our workshops. We use a black anodized aluminum profile.
This allows the bar to be customized between 1m and 2m, depending on the office setup.
It is equipped with three high-impedance speakers to handle high power levels. This configuration makes it compatible for direct use with the audiometer's amplifier. Some audiometers are already equipped with three speaker outputs and can be controlled directly by the audiometer.
A control software for the central speaker is provided with the sound bar.
Logiciel
Control and Dispatching Software
he basic version allows:
Raising and lowering the sound bar if it is equipped with actuators (up and down arrows).
Stopping the actuators in case of emergency.
Switching from the right speaker (red) to the left speaker (blue) according to a defined protocol.
Moving the central speaker to reach a specific letter.
Turning the LED of the selected speaker on or off with the star button.
Using the keyboard keys to record the patient’s response, based on the alphabet letters displayed on the sound bar casing.
This patented process allows for localization accuracy within 2°.
Calibrating the sound bar based on its length and the distance between the bar and the patient.
